Forestry Mulching

Brush and Small Trees Ground Into Mulch, In Place, Across Milton, Pace, Jay and Santa Rosa County

Acreage that has gone back to brush, a fence line you cannot walk, a pond edge or a trail swallowed by growth: forestry mulching takes it back without burn piles and without hauling. A mulching head on the machine grinds brush and small trees into a layer of mulch right where they stood, so the ground is open, covered and walkable the same day. Zac runs the machine himself, and the jobs below are real ones he filmed.

Dad Bod Tractor and Equipment Services is an owner-operated excavating contractor based in Milton, FL that provides forestry mulching, land clearing and bush hogging across Santa Rosa, Escambia and Okaloosa counties.

How It Works

How Zac Does It

Walk it first

What is growing, how thick it is, what you want to keep, and what the ground is for afterwards. Mulching is the right call for some properties and a full clear is the right call for others, and the walk-through is where that gets decided.

Grind it where it stands

The mulching head shreds brush, vines, saplings and small trees into mulch as the machine moves through. Nothing is piled, nothing is burned, and nothing leaves the property.

Leave it covered

The mulch stays on the ground as a layer that holds the soil, slows regrowth and keeps the cleared ground from washing in the next rain. If you want bare, graded ground instead, that is land clearing, and Zac can do that in the same visit.

What We Handle

What The Job Covers

Overgrown acreage

Land that has gone back to brush opened up so you can walk it, use it or see what you own.

Fence lines and property lines

Growth along fences and boundaries mulched back so the line is clear and reachable again.

Trails and access paths

Paths cut and mulched through thick growth for access, hunting, riding or getting equipment to the back of the property.

Pond and ditch edges

Growth around retention ponds, ditches and low areas mulched in place, like the retention pond job on this page.

Underbrush under trees

The understory cleared out while the trees you want stay standing, so a wooded lot becomes a park-like one.

Selective clearing

Brush and unwanted small trees taken out, the trees you point to left alone.

Good To Know

Local Ground, Local Answers

Forestry mulching or land clearing?

Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into mulch and leaves the roots and the mulch in the ground. It is the right choice for opening up acreage, fence lines, trails and understory, where you want the land usable and covered, not bare.
Land clearing takes the growth out, including roots and stumps where needed, and leaves ground that can be graded and built on. It is the right choice for a homesite, a pad, a driveway route or anywhere the next step is dirt work.
Plenty of properties get both: mulching across the acreage and a full clear where the house or the barn goes.

What it does not do

Mulching cuts above the ground, so roots stay and some growth comes back over time. A follow-up pass or a bush hog cut keeps it down. Large trees are a job for a tree service, not a mulching head. And if you need bare, graded dirt, mulching is the wrong tool and Zac will say so.

Why it suits this part of Florida

Brush fills in fast here, and burn piles and haul-off both add time, cost and permit questions. Mulching skips all three, and the mulch layer helps hold sandy ground that would otherwise wash the first time it rains on bare dirt.

Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into mulch where they stand and leaves the roots and the mulch layer in the ground, so the land is open and covered. Land clearing removes the growth, including roots and stumps where needed, so the ground can be graded and built on. Mulching is for acreage, fence lines, trails and understory; clearing is for homesites, pads and driveways. Zac does both and can tell you at the walk-through which one your property needs.

It depends on how many acres, how thick the growth is, how big the trees are, the terrain and how easy it is to get the machine to the work. You get one straight price from a free walk-through, and the number holds.

It depends entirely on how thick the growth is. Light brush goes fast, dense saplings and small trees go slower. Zac gives you a timeline at the walk-through once he has seen what is growing.

Some of it, over time, because the roots stay in the ground. The mulch layer slows it down, and a follow-up pass or a bush hog cut keeps it down once the land is open.

Brush, vines, saplings and small trees, yes. Large trees are a job for a tree service. If there are big trees in the way, Zac will tell you straight at the walk-through.

Often, yes. The retention pond job on this page is an example. Wet ground changes how the machine works and when, so it is one of the things Zac looks at on the walk-through.

Yes. See land clearing. Many jobs are a mix: mulching across the acreage and a full clear where something is being built.
